With a small tear in my eye, I present the final Lady Grey post. It seems I’ve been working on this coat for three years. It also seems that way to Mr. Bug, who is eagerly looking forward to his very own coat. After the jump, check out the Lady Grey coat served three ways. And a collection of my Lady Grey links. So after everyone weighed in, I was forced to agree. The tie version of the belt worked the best for me. I really loved the bow. It was adorable, but not the best look. I also liked the buckle a lot, but upon testing it out, it was annoying when I was sitting down. So tie it is! And thanks to Tanit-Isis for reminding me that a higher waistband is better. Luckily, I hadn’t attached the belt loops, so I scooted their placement up as high as I could get them.
Final analysis, I love the coat. I wasn’t sure about the wide neckline in our cold, cold weather, but we have scarves here in Minnesota. I’m not sure how much I’ll get to wear it yet this fall, but come spring…

It turned out so very fabulous! I love it with the black scarf accent, and I think you need a bright green scarf for this Spring..or fuschia maybe. Congratulations, and well done to you a for such a great thorough project, from both sewing and great blogging perspective.

Thanks! Fuschia would be perfect! or lime green mmmm... that scarf? It's ALL CASHMERE and cool and curly and I found it in the for sale bin at anthropologie for $18!!

Oh, yay! So glad I helped! :D It looks delicious. A thought on the open neckline---it is indeed great for scarves. I'm actually a bit worried about my winter coat, which has a very closed neckline... I'm afraid that the scarves won't fit inside it and a scarf tied loosely on the outside is really quite useless (although decorative). Good luck on Mr. Bug's coat!
Your coat is gorgeous! And you look great in it as well! I admire your patience and the fact that you are already done! Now you can try to find an indefinite amount of scarves to go with it!

Gosh, I didn't even get to vote on the belt options, but I think that you're right and the tie belt looks fantastic. And the positioning is spot on. The coat's just gorgeous, and what a great color on you!
Hey Patty: Did you run into the problem of the hem of the lining being too short for the outer shell of the coat? (Gertie wrote about it recently.) I've followed the pattern directions exactly and I'm wondering if a .25 inch SA on the lining may prevent this problem that Gertie and a few other Lady Grey sewists have encountered.

Your coat totally rocks. I caught up on reading your older blog posts tonight and your skills have really improved, I hope I can onto sewing half that fast. As I used to sew lots 30 years ago, I'm hoping it's like riding a bike.....I wished I lived closer to you as we make many of the same fitting adjustments and I'd really love to have a sewing buddy
