Good morning flying squirrels! Does all that extra skin make it hard to fly? Our basset hound has a lot of extra skin too, could you give her some flying lessons?

I had a hard time getting photos taken for snugbug365 this week – last night I took three days worth of daily outfit pictures! I managed, but barely…

Row 1: Saturday day | Saturday nite | Sunday

Row 2: Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday

Row 3: Thursday | Thursday action shot | Friday

All the gory details can be found on snugbug365!

And now, tidbits I found interesting on the googles this week!!

Lace-trimmed Bias Binding!

Reana Louise from Curves, Patterns and Pins showed off her lovely lace-trimmed bias binding. I liked her method of attaching the lace, a technique that she based on Tasia’s bias tape tutorial from the Pendrell sewalong!

Wet-Blocking Knits

Tasha of By Gum, By Golly has been leading the Briar Rose Knitalong. I haven’t been following super closely, but this picture-heavy wet-blocking tutorial caught my eye. I haven’t been knitting a lot lately, but when I DO knit, I use a blocking method that I’m sure would make most knitters cringe (there’s a wet washcloth and an iron involved.) Wet blocking seems difficult, messy and, well, messy to me. After reading the tutorial I’m not so scared! (oh! and BTW, if you missed it, Andrea from the New Vintage Wardrobe posted her completed Briar Rose sweater yesterday! It’s adorable!)

A no-brainer tip that never, EVER occurred to me…

Let’s just get it out of the way… Ann over at Gorgeous Things shared this brilliant tip: make your skirt before your bodice so the bias has a chance to hang out while you complete the dress. Seriously people, I bet most of you love that 50’s style dress with the full skirt that needs to hang before it gets hemmed, so this should be super applicable. It has never occurred to me to get the skirt out of the way first! Or, is everyone doing this and I’m just slow on the uptake??

the question – to jump or not to jump

Finally… what are all ya’ll all flying squirrel’s thoughts on inserting the ‘read more’ break in blog posts. Love ‘em? Hate ‘em? I realized this week that I insert them because I hate scrolling through my blog looking for a post from last week. But most of you probably aren’t doing that on my blog! I generally read most blogs via Google Reader, so the jump isn’t even an issue, but for those who read blogs by going to the website, do you prefer the quick view and you click for the rest, or is it annoying to have to do the extra click to read the full post?? Let me know!

And with that squirrleypoos, I’m outta here. We are low on the plans for the holiday weekend. Some gardening, measuring the basement to make a working floor plan for a potential renovation, a little bit of work at the shop, a bike ride with Mr. Bug, party at the neighbor’s and lots of sewing are in store for me! See you next week!

weekly what-I-wore round up and interwebz picks…

Greetings chupacabras! I believe in you, although I wish you’d stop sucking goat blood. And if I hear you’re going after pygmy goats, I’ll send Lucy the hound after you. She’s ferocious and we’re pretty sure her slobber is venomous…

It’s already that time of the week! I’m still feeling discombobulated from the roadtrip, but I have outfit posts for you…

Weekly roundup and interweb treats.

[EDIT…. before I post!! I put this together yesterday while blogger was still down and Mr. Bug and I were getting ready for a road trip. Blogger’s back and we’ve made it as far as Madison, Wisconsin… I got a lot of knitting done in the car, but my skills were rusty (you shoulda seen my M1’s…) and my count was off, so I ripped and restarted! Hopefully the weak wi-fi in our hotel will let me get this published!! Peace out, pygmy goats!]

As I write this, blogger is down and the twitter-verse is having a collective meltdown! I had one too when I thought I’d lost my post earlier today. That reminds me – for those of you who blog using blogger/blogspot, do you use any sort of blog-writing platform that’s external to blogger? I use Windows Live Writer and I like it a lot. It’s less clunky than putting together posts on the blogger site and has some extra formatting features that aren’t available in the blogger editor. It’s a free download (and works with Wordpress blogs as well.) Is there anything else out there that’s similar?

Onto the weekly duds…

Greetings weekend warrior rabbits! It’s gotten late in the night and I need to get my beauty sleep, so we’re going to make this quick and dirty. But not too dirty. First, what I wore this week…

Row 1 – That was Sunday through Tuesday. Very cold. Also, I was feeling the polka dot love…

Row 2 – Slightly warmer, still cardigan city, This was Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Row 3 – Today was finally in he 70’s! Yay

Happy weekend, dear manatees! Let’s just jump in and get the what I wore stuff out of the way, shall we?

Top row: last Saturday through Monday… I hope you all REALLY like my gardening outfit in the center!

Second row: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: it got cold again, can you tell?

Left: What I wore today!

When I kicked off the new (and improved?) snugbug365 at the beginning of the month, I wasn’t sure how long I’d stick to the daily regimen! I’ve found that I’ve really enjoy it and I’ve stuck with it pretty faithfully - although a couple of shots are ‘staged’ the day after due to bad planning! I’m still trying to decide if I’ll continue into May. I think I probably will – and then most of us will be style blogging during Me-Made-June, right?

Let’s continue with the week’s recap….

It’s Friday night! Another week gone and another week closer to spring. Let’s get the what I’m wearing business out of the way, shall we? Here’s the last week’s worth of outfits…

[April 16 – April 17 – April 18]

[April 19 – April 20 – April 21]

[April 22 – April 22 boots – April 22 coat]

Now that we’ve taken a look at what I’ve  been wearing, let’s take a look at what other people are up to. Here’s the top five things that got my heart going pitter pat on the interwebs this week…

Time to take up quilting again??

[image:: film in the fridge]

Ok, owlets… as many of you know, I have not been a quilter in many years. It was fun while it lasted, but I really felt I’d made all the quilts necessary for this lifetime before I turned 27. Egad! I just realized that was 10 years ago! Anyway – I came across these pics this week on the blog Film in the Fridge and have been pleasantly distracted by plotting out a potential almost all white quilt with clever funky blocks. Thanks to whomever mentioned this blog in our blog roundup that was part of the giveaway!

My dream shoes…

nerash a

[image :: Esme and the Laneway]

Shoe obsession! I already whined about this on my facebook page, but it really warrants a top five mention for the week, due to the amount of time I’ve spent thinking about them... I am in LOVE with these shoes, available from the Australian company Wittner. The good news: they’re on sale! The bad news: shipping from Australia to the United States: $60AUD.

Mixing prints 101…

04.18.11 | 30x30: day sixteen[image Casey’s :: Elegant Musings]

Since practically all of you listed this as one of your favorite blogs, I’m sure you’re all familiar… but I can’t get over how much I love the mix of print and stripes Casey posted as part of her 30x30 project. I also love the flats, belt, bright red lipstick, elegant ponytail and necklace-as-bracelet…

Favorite new song…

[video :: Sew Misunderstood]

Did all y’all watch Psycho Sue’s video of her awesome original song? It’s super catchy and super rocker girl! She can really sing! There’s also a great message to the song… but this girl can sing!

All I want for Christmas…

[video You Tube]

Sorry folks. I’m really not a “awwwww… I’m gonna forward this cute animal picture to everyone I know” type, but a friend posted this on Facebook and I’ve watched it about six hundred and eighty times. Pygmy goat stampede! I totally know what I’m getting Lucy the hound for Christmas! Perhaps the next giveaway as well??

And with that, I’m signing off for the weekend. I’ve got a little work at the shop on the schedule, some bike riding and about 40 rosebushes to prune!
